1. Stored Hay & Straw — In Hay Sheds or Outdoor Stacks
Covers baled timothy, alfalfa, grass hay, and straw once harvested and stacked — whether stored inside a 3-sided hay barn, under tarps, or in open outdoor stacks — against fire, lightning, windstorm, wildfire, vandalism/arson, and vehicle impact. We set per-stack and blanket location limits that match your tonnage and market price per ton.
Real-world example: If a lightning strike or range fire ignites a 400-ton stack of export timothy hay valued at $280/ton, Stored Hay coverage pays for the destroyed tonnage.
2. Hay Spontaneous Combustion & Heating Endorsement
Many basic property policies exclude fire caused by internal fermentation or spontaneous heating inside a hay stack. Our agricultural farm carriers offer dedicated Stored Hay forms and endorsements that cover fire loss and help address stack-spacing rules so one stack fire doesn't jeopardize your whole yard.
Real-world example: When we set up your hay schedule before first cutting, we review stack separation distances (typically 100 feet between stacks or per-stack caps) so your full hay value is compliant and protected.
3. Seasonal Peak-Value / Reporting Endorsements for Hay & Grain
Your hay and grain inventory isn't the same in March as it is in September right after third cutting. Seasonal Peak-Value and monthly reporting forms automatically step your coverage limits up during harvest and storage months and step them back down as hay or grain is sold and shipped out.
Real-world example: Instead of paying year-round for peak October inventory, your limit scales up as first, second, and third cuttings are stacked and scales down as semi loads ship through the winter.
4. Crop-Hail & Named-Peril Standing Crop Insurance
Private Crop-Hail policies can be purchased right up until hail hits (subject to carrier binding windows) to provide acre-by-acre dollar protection against hail, fire, lightning, vandalism, and transit to the first place of storage — either standalone or on top of federal MPCI coverage.
Real-world example: If a July thunderstorm drops golf-ball hail across 160 acres of wheat, sweet corn, or cherries two weeks before harvest, Crop-Hail pays on the percentage of damaged yield.
5. Orchard, Vineyard & Nursery Tree/Vine, Trellis & Fruit Coverage
Orchards (apples, cherries, pears, citrus, nuts) and wine/table grape vineyards have massive capital tied up in the trees/vines themselves, high-density wire trellises, wind machines/frost fans, drip irrigation, and harvested fruit bins. We insure orchard infrastructure, wind machines, and harvested fruit in transit or cold storage.
Real-world example: If a wildfire, windstorm, or heavy snow event damages high-density orchard trellises, frost wind machines, and stacked picking bins, your Orchard Farm policy covers the repair and replacement.
6. Harvested Crop in Transit, Custom Hauling & Cold Storage Breakdown
Covers your baled hay, grain, or fruit while being hauled on farm trucks and trailers from the field to the stackyard, elevator, hay press, or packing shed — plus Equipment Breakdown and Spoilage for controlled-atmosphere (CA) coolers, packing lines, and grain drying systems.
Real-world example: If a load of hay catches fire from a blown trailer tire on I-82 or a refrigeration compressor fails in your fruit cold-storage room, Transit and Spoilage coverages protect your crop revenue.
